I Joined Burlesque Chair Dance on 10th May 2018: on my 61st birthday!

I Fell in love with BCD after my very 1st class, however it was only after performing on stage that I realised how my life & mental health had changed. This became the impetus for me to train as an instructor & inspire others to change their life & health for the better.

As I had no previous experience of dance fitness it was a sharp but enjoyable learning curve. Although as a nurse the theory part wasn’t a problem, it is actually an advantage when advising on dancing with certain health problems.

​

Now my classes are established I love watching someone nervously walking through the door on their first class, falling in love with it & within a few weeks the first chance they get dancing on stage with bags of confidence. Getting feedback from ladies telling how their lives & health have changed for the better is an added bonus.

The boost to my own physical & mental health has been fabulous. I love performing & teaching but best of all is the true friendships that are formed and the feeling of belonging to a special family. So proud of my ladies who recently competed in 5 categories at the Open Stage Heats. Resulting in 2 wins & 3 runners up, plus one proud mama instructor.

​

As well as competitions we have an annual show which raises money for a different charity each year. It is also an opportunity for my fabulous ladies to showcase their talents to friends & family.

Occasionally we will do a Burlesque –athon (6hrs x 6 routines) also to raise money for charity.

​

In conclusion, we are not JUST a dance class. We are family. We support each other; as well as getting fit, losing weight, inspiring others & gaining confidence; we also perform and raise money for charity.
